I’m (US) interviewing for a job and looking to move to Japan (Tokyo) but am having a tough time figuring out a budget. It looks like a decent place in shibuya is ~300k yen a month, with other expenses being regular ones (cell phone, food, internet, tv, health insurance, booze, gym membership), eating out a couple times a week and traveling to somewhere in Japan every other weekend, doggie daycare 5x a week, with nonexistent retirement benefit maxing out my Roth IRA, and 10% for savings. Any pointers or spreadsheets to share?

Also Shibuya to me is a pretty miserable place to live unless you are living on the 20th floor or higher.
I used to live in shibuya, there’s good and bad areas. Personally my favourite living location is minato or koto – both better value for money. Budget wise, it entirely depends on what sort of pad you are after
