I had a poke around the Japanese site, but I couldn’t find it there was some kind of special membership for just your home gym only; I cannot really imagine a need for all Japan let alone the world, so is there a cheaper option that only lets you use a single gym?

Any private gym? Though gyms in general cost more here than in most other deveoped countries. If you aren’t looking for 24h gyms and just go 2-3 times a week maybe a communal gym would work for your needs. Found the one close to me quite decent even though it has a bit less devices and all of them older than franchises like anytime or gold gym.
I highly doubt it and even if there was, they would give such a tiny discount that it wouldn’t be worth it anyway.
I didn’t do anytime fitness, but did another 24 hour gym with multiple locations nationwide and they had an option to do any gym or just your own gym and it was around 2-3k cheaper. Go in and ask.
