How do I type in Japanese on android without using the 3×4 keyboard?

1. I am using multiling o keyboard with the japanese plugin

2. Google’s g-board has options for QWERTY, the 3×4, and a writing keyboard. You just have to download it from the app store and then use settings to set it as your default

3. in addition to the g-board consider installing the google handwriting keyboard. combined with the japanese language keyboard you get from the g-board, you’ll be able to DRAW kana and kanji instead of typing in romaji, which is both excellent practise and also way easier to enter kanji to look up words rather than having to do a radical lookup for each one
