The LINE account I’ve been using was originally tied to my old US phone number (which I now no longer have access to due to switching SIM cards etc) and was thus a USA LINE account. I’ve gotten a new phone and have the choice of either transferring my old account to this phone or making a new LINE account using the Japanese version of LINE. Pros of using my old account are that I don’t have to re-add all my contacts, but I’m wondering if there’s any pros to having a Japan LINE app? (The only one I know of would be buying Japan-specific stickers lol). Now would be the time to change if I’m going to do so, so if you have any reasons that it’s important to have the Japanese version of LINE/tied to a Japanese phone number I’d appreciate hearing about that.
Thanks for your insights!

The “only” pro?
You can use LINE Pay, which is great. 2% cash back on all purchases when you use touch to pay.
You should be able to switch your old account to your Japanese number and get a Japan based LINE account.
My account is still the same I had when I still had a number/SIM from my country, but I switched to my Japanese number. Now I can get free stickers only available in Japan, so I think the whole account is changed. (I still also have my old number on a 2nd SIM but it doesn’t show up on my LINE account at all anymore.)
How long are you using your current account without access to the connected number? I’d be super worried to lose my account.
You should update the phone number on your account with your current number (in Japan), and not create a new LINE account, as you no longer have access to the old number; you won’t need to re-add your friends, and you won’t lose all your current stickers.
Mainly because, whoever gets your old US number would be able to take control of your LINE account, and if (when?) that happens, you won’t be able to get it back.
I did switch my account over to a Japanese phone number yesterday. Just bind your current account to an e-mail address first so you don’t lose it. I think there’s a help article on their support page detailing exactly how to change to a phone number from a different country.
When I switched over they had me erase my Overseas Line Pay credentials but other than that everything else was the same.
