My partner and me are in need of a car between October-January in the Aichi/Nagoya area and we are considering our options. We need a car for commuting with our baby, we will be staying in a rural area so there are limited public transport options and a car would come in handy. My partner is a japanese citizen with japanese drivers licence, I’ll be staying under short term visa and a foreign drivers licence if that’s relevant. We have close family in Aichi.
We are thinking about long(er) term renting (I’ve found [its-smile.co.jp](https://its-smile.co.jp) so far) or buying and selling a used car for given period. It doesn’t need to be a luxurious car but should’nt be a death trap for our toddler. A car seat can and will be borrowed from relatives. Getting rid of the car in January should be as easy as possible.
I don’t have any experiences renting our buying cars in Japan, hence very open for advice. Have you been in similar situations and can recommend alternatives or share your experiences?

Couldn’t find anywhere cheaper than Guts Rentacar when we were renting for a week every now and again when we first arrived. We considered monthly rentals instead of buying too as it’s also cheap. I doubt you’ll find cheaper and buying/selling sounds like a hassle.
