    The thing that sucks is that self-defermination can be weaponized. Would 98 percent of people in the Donbass like to join Russia? Of course not. But would over 50 percent? Quite possibly. And Putin is going to use that as an excuse to move borders in his favor.

    Edit: also noteworthy that just like the Nazis you can see Putin’s own hatred of particular groups (gay people, namely) woven into the justification, when really, that stuff has nothing to do with any of this. That’s deeply foreboding – it raises the same question Nazi “liberation” did – what happens to “those people” in these regions?

15. IDK why putin just doesn’t want to be honest. Russia’s demographics are fucked, so they invaded to expand their territories to the natural barriers of the area. Problem is those natural barriers involve like 20 other countries some of which are Nato countries. While I understand the problem, Putin could have worked something out instead of demanding that those countries let Russia decide their security policy. Maybe he should have just build a wall or something idk.

    He’s pretty much lost the war, whatever is left of the economy, over 300k men in their 20s left the country so far, destroyed his oil export market for 30 years (the pipelines freeze if oil stops flowing for 2-3 weeks and takes 30 years to fix)
