1-2 week Tokyo itinerary

Hey all, now that Japan has opened up I’m planning a 3 month trip. My itinerary starts in Tokyo, and I’ve booked a hotel in Ikebukuro for 1 week.

I am a person who lives to eat. Japanese cuisine has been my favorite for as long as I can remember, and it has been my dream to go on a culinary adventure. I’ve watched plenty of YouTube videos etc. on the craftsmanship that goes into a lot of the types of dishes in Japan, and I’d like to experience the most delicious food humanity has to offer.

I have a list of dishes that I plan on trying while in Tokyo. I may opt to try them in other parts of Japan, but any recommendations for places here or dishes not listed would be highly appreciated:
– Dishes
– chawanmushi
– ramen (tonkotsu)
– ramen (tsukemen)
– fresh sushi
– uni ikura don
– katsu sando
– zaru soba
– karaage
– udon
– Desserts
– souffle pancakes
– kakigori
– Other
– ceremonial matcha tea
– other tea? Sencha/hojicha?
– a nice coffee shop

My secondary goal for Tokyo is to see all of the major attractions/neighborhoods of Tokyo. Since I don’t have a set date for when I’m leaving Tokyo, I may extend my stay for up to two weeks.

Here’s my itinerary:

Day 1: Ikebukuro
– 2:25PM — Arrive at Narita Airport
– Drop my stuff off at the hotel (In Ikebukuro)
– Visit Pokemon mega store
– Eat dinner around Tokyo Skytree

Day 2: Shinjuku

– Tea at Sakurai Tea Experience
– Dinner: Soba at Ryan

Day 4: Ebisu/Daikanyamacho
– Lunch: Ebisu Yokocho
– Dessert: Japanese Ice Ouca
– Dinner: Isshin Daikanyama (for the chawanmushi)
– Generally explore

Day 5: Ginza
– Morning: visit the Hie shrine in Asakusa
– Lunch: Nemuro Hanamaru (conveyor belt sushi)
– Godzilla statue
– Tokyo Tower
– Imperial Palace tour
– Dinner: Iroriya Higashiginzaten (ikura don bowl)

Day 6: Odaiba
– Wake up early to go to Toyosu Market
– Lunch: look for some fresh fish in Toyosu (Nakaya?)
– Walk around Koto City/Odaiba
– Go to National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation
– Gundam Statue, Statue of Liberty
– Rainbow bridge at night

Day 7: Akihabara
– Lunch: @Home cafe maid cafe
– Tokyo National Museum
– Dinner: Kikanbo
– Night: visit Senso-ji

Are there days I should split up? Are there neighborhoods I should explore that aren’t listed? I’m fine extending my stay to 14 days if it makes sense to.

Additionally– where should I go after Tokyo? I’m thinking either Hakone (relax) or Aomori (fish market, autumn colors, etc.) I have three months to explore.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Nakameguro is a great little neighborhood with different restaurants and cafes. Serininkan (one of the best pizzas in the world is around there IIRC). I loved walking around that area in the evening/night. A visit to karimuizawa to relax would be great. Then maybe look into heading to miyagi and Yamagata prefecture.
