Has anyone taught (or know someone who’s taught) at J Prep?

Hi, I thought about asking in teachinginjapan sub, but I want to ask here in case there’s someone who’s job is not teaching but knows something about this school.

I’m Japanese (lived overseas in the past, have experience teaching and making teaching materials) and I’m interested in applying for the seishain teaching/material making position at J Prep (J Institute).

I was wondering what working there is like, especially for Japanese seishain.
I’ve read on the internet that:

Pros
-people are amazing
-is becoming more and more popular in Tokyo

Cons
-work hours are long (zangyo)
-salary doesn’t increase much

I’m especially concerned about the long work hours.
I know it’s Japan and it’s a juku, but how much do people actually work overtime?
I’m OK working 1-2 hours overtime per day on average.

I don’t know anyone who work there, so if you’ve worked there or know someone who’s worked there, could you tell me what it’s like? (Especially Japanese seishain experience, but information about working there as a foreigner is also appreciated.) Thank you.

  1. Got a friend who works there. It’s an eikawa position in a cram school, you’ll be offered the same limited term contracts for 4 years everyone else is. Abandon all hope yee who enter unto this place. That being said I also know who at least had that job and wasn’t aware they were leaving, and the curriculum position pays significantly better than the teaching.

  2. I worked part time there, and I think their part time rates are fantastic. My manager was awesome, but definitely overworked. I talked with her about becoming a full time worker but the process is apparently long, with a lot of interviews and presentations. Wasn’t worth the effort for me lol

It is a cram school but they welcome a lot of input and you can get an opportunity to work on new materials, so that’s cool, if you’re into it. Overall, for this type of business model in Japan I would say this is as good as it gets.
