which japanese authors and books, or what kind of japanese literature is sold and read in Japan?

Hello! Hope this post finds you well. I didn´t quite know where to ask this question, however, here it goes. But first, some context: There is a notion, a fairly widespread notion here in the west, according to which the west imports only a certain kind of japanese literature — or maybe it imports some things out of that parameters but they highlight only the ones that fit into them — while other authors remain untranslated. It is also said that the industry prefers to import books that they think would resonate more with western culture (typical example being haruki murakami since he´s openly stated his links with the western literary tradition). If this is at least to some exent true, I´m curious of knowing what kind of literature is actually written, published, sold and read in Japan by japanese authors and readers. Anyway, I know it´s kind of a vague question, but I´m willing to read comments as long as they need to be. Thank you in advance :3

  1. Only a small portion of western books are translated into Japanese.

Can you tell me what types of western books are not translated into Japanese?
