Question about immersion – resources

Hello,

I’ve been learning Japanese for about 2 years now and the biggest problem i face is immersion. I always struggle to find some content that i’m interested in – i don’t really like anime or Japanese dramas (or any other TV shows/movies in general – not just in Japanese). The same goes for podcasts. The only content that i find enjoyable is the Japanese with Shun vlogs:([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC8s8fuDziY&list=PLUqu4MKiV5q\_msliiqZJSEscdPuwUAWG2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC8s8fuDziY&list=PLUqu4MKiV5q_msliiqZJSEscdPuwUAWG2)).

Does anybody have some similar recommendations or should i just keep watching anime/shows that i don’t enjoy that much, but still learn something from them?

  1. Have you looked into Japanese audiobooks? I mean, they’re books so the genres and topics vary wildly so I’m sure there’s something there for everyone. While I do watch anime, I’m not so much for dramas either. But shows like ゲームセンターCX and ダウンタウンのガキの使いやあらへんで are pretty good just for the interactions and banter between people.

  2. I really enjoy watching NHK for school, but it’s mostly shows for children and may be too simple for your level.

Maybe try playing story-rich videogames, read scientific articles in Japanese. Find a native friend to talk.

Really hard to guess what do you want, but the best advice is always to find something you like, especially if your level of understanding is somewhat good.
