(Itinerary check) Chiba, Hakone, Kawaguchiko, Tokyo (11 days)

Hi there! I am heading to Tokyo from mid to late November 2022 and would appreciate some advice on my rough itinerary in particular to the Chiba leg.

Some background: this is my 6th trip to Japan and have visited a number of Japanese cities (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Nara, Kobe, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Kanazawa, Takayama and Hokkaido). For this trip, I would like to go areas nearby Tokyo only.

Day 1: arrival into Narita at 4pm. Go straight to Chiba for dinner and rest for the day

Day 2: Chiba (Yoro Keikoku Valley)

Day 3: Chiba

Day 4: Chiba

I would like to visit Shimuzu Park, Hondon-ji temple and Izumi Park while in Chiba. The back up plan is to visit Disneyland if we have too much time on our hands.

Day 5: Head to Hakone via Shinjuku. I assume we would reach near lunchtime so we can’t do much for the first day which is why we are staying for 2 nights

Day 6: Hakone

Day 7: Hakone to Lake Kawaguchi (staying overnight to catch autumn illumination)

Day 8: Lake Kawaguchi to Tokyo (stopping by Gotemba outlet to shop)

Day 9-11: Tokyo

My major question is 4 days in Chiba too long or just nice for the places I’ve listed? It’s my first time to Chiba. Any other comments would be much appreciated too especially where I should go to catch the autumn foliage.

Thanks in advance

  1. With regard to Chiba itinerary – there is no real feasible way to complete all four locations in less than 3 days, unless you rent a car.

My recommendation would actually probably to do so, as then you’d be able to visit Shimizu Park, Hondon-ji and Izumi Nature Park in a single day, and properly explore Boso Peninsula (Mt. Nokogiriyama, Nojimasaki Lighthouse), while staying at one of the resorts in the area.

  2. >I would like to visit Shimuzu Park,

Do you mean Shimizu Park? Looks like fun.

Are you renting a car? Kamogawa Sea World is a bit of a drive but it is good.
