Getting hired via PEO/EOR in Japan

Heya everyone.

I’m currently living in Japan and have gotten a job offer to work remote for a European country (Sweden).
I’ve read up a little bit on hiring via a PEO (personal employer organisation) and i think that’s going to be the best option for me.

So my question is, does anyone have any experience being hired via a PEO, how did you go about it, which PEO’s are most reliable, what are their charge rates/fees, how long did the initial process take etc.

Don’t know which PEO’s are most “reliable” but a quick search has lead me to 3 potential PEO companies that work in Japan which are:
\* New Horizons Global Partners
\* Global PEO
\* Velocity Global

Any and all info is appreciated, thanks!

  1. I worked via a GEO for a bit. YOU don’t get to pick it, your company does. It’s not your responsibility to manage it or contract with it or find it. If your company wants to take that road, they need to set it up.

In terms of working for one, it’s not ideal. You’re a contractor to your foreign company which often means you aren’t a “real” employee. Think of it like a temp agency. Your benefits are basic and whatever is in the contract only. Make sure you negotiate a good contract (hours, PTO, expectations, e v e r y t h i n g.

Ps: Please stop asking me which one, I’m done sharing that info

  2. I work remotely for a company based in the US and am ‘hired’ by a PEO. As the other commenter said, this is usually sorted out by the employer not the employee, so you should ask your future employer about this.

In my case, my company sorted this out when giving me the job offer. I also negotiated with them to make sure that while I’m hired on a contract basis with the PEO, I am treated like a full-time, permanent employee at the main company with the same benefits (i.e. hired on a permanent basis). They put this in writing for me. I would advise you do something similar.
