Music store recommendations in Tokyo center for buying a Ukulele?

My ukulele playing partner’s birthday is coming up soon and I would like to buy them a nice wooden one to upgrade from their beginner plastic one.

Does anyone know any good stores in the center I should check out and maybe instrument buying tips? (in the UK for e.g. you can haggle in some stores). Additionally, if anyone is a Ukulele player and knows some solid brands, I’d really appreciate some tips.

Cheers!

  1. The Ochanomizu area has a bunch of stores, most notably:

    – [Ukulele Tantan](https://g.page/ukuleleshoptantan?share)
    – [Ukulele Planet](https://goo.gl/maps/BpqW6RMgT1By2QkFA)

In terms of brands, if you’re going higher end, Kanilea (and Islander), Kamaka, and Martin are popular. I just did a similar upgrade from beginner, and opted for a Japan-made [Kiwaya Tenor](https://kiwayasbest.com/shopdetail/000000003839/ct173/page1/recommend/). I’ve been happy with it, but maybe would do an Islander (like [this](https://amzn.asia/d/cFoVOHI)) if I could do it again — and that might be a good cost-effective option for you.
