Japan research work environment.

Im currently working on my PhD in nuclear engineering and have been curious about working/living in Japan once I graduate. The work environment in the us, when doing research, is pretty chill. As long as you get your work done your boss will be happy they don’t really care how you get your hrs in. Just an example; I’m really into bike racing and I was allowed to show up to work early take a long lunch to go race then come back and stay late. My boss knows what I’m doing as I asked him and he said it was cool. Research advisors at school are the same way, super chill. I’ve seen a lot of good and bad things regarding working in Japan but nothing specific to research let alone nuclear research. Basically what I’m trying to ask, is the research environment in Japan just as chill as the US?
