Full-time Direct-Hire ALT position (Canadian Citizens only)

EDIT: We’ve been receiving a good amount of applications, so we’ve decided to add an earlier deadline. If you are interested in the job, please DM me **by** **March 31st** to being the process.

Ohtaki, Date City, Hokkaido is looking for an International Exchange Teacher. I am the current holder of the position, and will be leaving at the end of July. The position is for an exchange program between sistering cities (Ohtaki, Hokkaido and Lake Cowichan, British Columbia). Up until now, all exchange teacher have come from or had ties to Lake Cowichan, but due to COVID the position has been difficult to fill, so it is now open to all Canadian citizens.

To apply you must:

\- be a native English speaker

\- be a Canadian citizen

\- have a 4-year bachelor’s degree (any subject)

\- have a valid driver’s license

I am attaching the original posting for the job below (the dates are wrong, but all other information is accurate). Unfortunately, it was not well-circulated, and we are really hoping to fill the position (Sept 1st, 2022 – July 31st, 2023). It is a wonderful position and I can provide you with any details you need. This place has been spectacular for me, and it would be incredibly sad if the position were to go unfilled.

Please DM if you meet the requirements and are interested.

Edit: Just a quick clarification about the pay. The original figure on the contract is 320,000 per month – 2000,000 is the monthly take home after all deductions. (the only bills I have paid in the past two and half years were for my own personal cellphone)

  1. Wow direct and only 200,000. That’s a bit sad

Edit: ok I admit I didn’t read carefully enough. It’s not a terrible deal all things considered.

  2. 200,000 yen is not a great deal even with those perks. After tax and insurance you’re looking at 150,000 a month?

  3. You do know that in Canada a job ad that specified a particular nationality would be illegal, right? #irony

  4. ah if only there wasn’t a stipulation for having a driver’s licence I would consider giving it a shot.

  5. Compared to 99% of the crap that’s on the teaching job sites, this one is actually good. Especially for the basic requirements.

People should remember that that money will go a lot further living in a small village than in a major city.

  6. OMG I love Cowichan Lake. I will pass it on to my peeps in Victoria in case anyone is interested.

  7. I have both American and Canadian citizenship (and passports) but came to Japan under my American passport. Can I still apply?

  8. all things considered a pretty excellent position. would def apply if I was canadian

  9. The application details on this posting seem to be out of date (deadline for 2017). Just confirming that this is the correct information aside from that?
