What shampoo do you use? I’m looking to switch…

(29M) my hair gets oily so fast. Like if I shower in the morning it will be oily by evening. I’ve been using Tsubaki for about 7 years and wash my hair every other day or maybe 4x/week.

I’ve done a bit of researching and it may be that between washing too much and using cheap low quality shampoo, I may be stripping my hair of too much oil, making it overproduce to compensate.

But I don’t know many shampoo brands here. What do you all use and do you have any recommendations?

  1. I really like the Lux botanical series. I use the ones that are damage control. They have ones that are for straight or silky hair but I’m naturally wavy so I don’t like using them.

  2. Pantene has been alright! I had the same problem with Tsubaki, Ichikami and &honey. The best I’ve used is a brand called “cota i care” they have different types of shampoo and conditioner depending on your hair type but honestly it’s the only shampoo I’ve ever felt got rid of the heavy oily feeling while also making my hair soft and manageable (I normally have rough wavy hair) only down side is the price XD note that I wash my hair everyday though

  3. I use the h&s shampoo. It’s pretty decent imo. Although tbh I’m unfamiliar with the brands here.

  4. Vidal Sassoon shampoo is especially good at getting rid of the coating of dried perspiration, salts, oils, airborne pollutants and dirt that can weigh down hair and flatten it to the scalp which can make you look older. The conditioner is also good – silicone technology permits conditioning benefits without weighing down the hair which can also make you look older.

  5. ive been there and what helped me was to take showers with conditioner only as opposed to shampooing more frequently. i condition every day or every other day and shampoo only when it feels like it needs it, maybe after 3-5 days

  6. Herbal Essences Argan oil of Morocco repair shampoo but HE bio-renew series have couple of other scents as well. Amazon Japan has them in stock. My hair is slightly wavy, so I’m trying to avoid shampoos with straightening qualities. Also trying to wash every second day if I can.

Honestly I’m kind of sceptical if this is a thing or not. I have oily skin and usually need to wash my hair every day, but as soon as I go on accutane (which makes your skin less oily, among other things) I can go multiple days without washing. Which makes me think it’s less about how you wash your hair and just whether genetically you’re predisposed to oily skin or not.

  8. Yeah look into washing your hair less. It’ll feel oily at first but your hair will adjust. I wash my hair like once a week and use Curel. It’s expensive but since I don’t wash my hair much, it’s affordable.

Also I do get my hair wet and sort of scrub my scalp with my fingers almost everyday. I just don’t shampoo / condition it everyday.

  9. I was using Tsubaki for a while, washing 1-2 times a week and conditioning pretty much daily (especially my beard) and it works alright. I decided to splurge a little and got Botanist to try it out and I like it quite a bit. Definitely probably overwashing, but I did find even just conditioner washing every day left my hair a bit more oily than I’d prefer.

  10. wash your hair with just conditioner instead of shampoo.

shampoo once a week or something.
