Meeting with a native speaker tomorrow

I’ve been learning for about a month now and I’ve been having a lot of fun with the language. A buddy of mine has a college class with a foreign exchange student and was able to get us in contact and we’re meeting tomorrow to practice. Im beyond excited!!! But I’m also a little nervous.

Like I said I’ve only been studying for a month or so and have no prior knowledge so I’m nervous that I won’t know enough yet to make a study sesh productive. I know the bare basics of grammar and have been building vocabulary mostly, as well as practicing some common greetings and sayings. Does anyone have any tips or advice that could help me tomorrow?

  1. Don’t be too stressed. How would you treat the non-English speaker if he/she does not speak with perfect English? You would still treat the person with kindness, right?

The Japanese native person will do the same thing to you. I mean, we say “I got Nihongo-Jouzued”, but there is literally a reason for that. The other speaker is trying to be as nice to you as possible!
