Is there any alternative to Nutella in Japan.

basically I am looking for something with chocolate flavor to eat with bread for breakfast. Preferably cheap.

  1. there is chocolate cream that is sold in the little cardboard pots with the peanut cream, but I can’t vouch for the taste.

  2. Gyomu has a chocolate spread that tastes similar and is much cheaper. I grew up eating Nutella but I think I prefer the gyomu one.

  3. If you have a 業務スーパー nearby, they usually have hazelnut and/or milk chocolate swirl spreads. Made in Germany last time I looked.

I’ll say it’s not 100% same as Nutella, but it’s much better than the chocolate cream weird crap in most Japanese supermarkets.

  4. Is this because you cannot find it onb supermarket shelves or because you find it too pricey?

  5. I sometimes have trouble finding Nutella but you can easily get Strawberry Jam and Caramel Cream in most of the big supermarkets

  6. Kaldi has some interesting spreads. Recently they had one that you could toast and make mock karepan, it was awesome.

  7. My friends swear on a chocolate+hazelnut spread called ‘NuCrema’ that is usually sold at discount supermarkets like Lamu スーパー. It has red and green packaging ^^
