Anyone else find themselves learning new words in their native language because of their Japanese study?

I’ve noticed that sometimes, I’ll encounter words in Japanese media, and upon looking them up realize that I didn’t even know the name for that thing or idea in English, after which point I end up learning it (and I’m not even talking about objects or ideas unique to Japanese culture, but rather general things, like corrugated cardboard or something). Anyone else have this happen?

  1. Yeah I learned “alight” which I probably should have already known. But anyway I learned it looking at 着陸

Next time I need to get out of a car I can say “I need to alight, all right?” and people will be like “all right alight!”
