Suggestions and Advice sought for a 16 day trip to Japan in late October (2nd trip ever, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka)

Hey everyone,

I’ve seen you all be so helpful to other itineraries and I’d be super grateful if you could check mine out as well. **I have 2 extra days** which I can plug in different places as well so **suggestions are super encouraged**.

Note that this will be my second trip to Japan, so I’m skipping some locations I’ve seen the first time around like Hiroshima (including Miyajima Island), Himeji, Nara, Takayama, Owakudani and Nikko. I’m not planning on taking a JR Pass this time around, from my calculations it’s not worth the expense.

I’m travelling solo and traveling as light as I can. This is similar to my first time in 2008.

  1. A few questions: May I ask why you are breaking your time in Tokyo in half? Have you been to Osaka and Kyoto before? Are you interested in the autumn foliage (if so ,you could research additional day trips according to the seasonality)? Also, if you haven’t booked anything yet, how do you feel about going to either Kyushu or Hokkaido instead of staying within the Kansai/Kanto prefectures?
