Crypto ATMs in Tokyo

Hello, everyone! I’ve just moved to japan and did the huge mistake of not bringing enough cash, so now i’m stuck using a credit card everywhere.

Question: Are there any cryptocurrency ATMs that withdraw to JPY without having to have a bank account? Like the 7-11 ATMs but less bureaucratic.

Thank in advance, by a starving brazilian.

  1. Don’t you have a bank account in Brazil? If your bank has debit cards, you should be able to withdraw money at ATMs.

Japan is very dumb about crypto. They have no crypto ATMs anywhere. The banks have made sure the competition cannot function and the government hates making it easy for foreign workers to sent money to their families without giving the banks a slice of the money.

Edit: Your best bet is to find a cryptocurrency Meetup group and see if someone there will give you cash for your crypto. [https://www.meetup.com/tokyo-bitcoin-cash-meetup-group/events/288811239/](https://www.meetup.com/tokyo-bitcoin-cash-meetup-group/events/288811239/)

You could also try Local Bitcoins [https://localbitcoins.net/](https://localbitcoins.net/)

  2. I hope the value of your unregulated internet currency doesn’t drop too much until you find your ATM.

  3. Not exactly.

There were crypto ATMs until a few years ago. They’re [being re-introduced in Japan](https://www.gaia-btm-service.com/) but as I understand you’ll now need to register for the service & submit your identity verification documents (e.g., resident card) so they can do KYC / AML checks.

So similar to opening a bank or exchange account. After registration and approval they’ll send you a physical access card that must be used when withdrawing.

  4. Bitcoin ATMs?

Easy. There aren’t any Bitcoin ATMs remaining in Japan. The government banned them a few years ago.

    #HOWEVER…

There might be new Bitcoin ATMs opening but those will require you to physically register (all in Japanese) at a bank-ish office like a bank account. Supposedly, [Gaia Co., Ltd](https://www.gaia-btm.com/) just opened two machines in Tokyo. https://www.gaia-btm.com/
