You can figure out Japanese accents just by listening to it a lot?

I’ve been watching lots of Japanese media like news and TV shows, and I think I naturally learned where to stress.

Wondering if anyone learned the accents this way- when I google ‘how to learn Japanese accent’ it says to practice by saying it aloud(which I didn’t really do much).

  1. That’s kind of how kids do it. As an adult it helps to have an understanding of pitch accent to act as a guide

  2. So I hate hearing my own voice recorded, but even so I think the best practice I had was, listening to a phrase spoken by a native Japanese speaker, then recording myself saying it and then listening to the difference.

  3. Accent as in general sounds and pronunciation? Sure. PITCH accent? Almost certainly not.
