Dear all,
I am traveling to Nagoya on 4th Nov. I book a night at Kamikochi. I have a few questions , hope someone here could help.
1) Shortest or easiest way to get from Nagoya airport to Kamikochi.
I understand that i need to take train from Nayoga airport, to central station and is it from the same station, i get the normal train ticket to Takayama , follow by bus to Kamikochi ???

2) I could not get any accommodation at Hirayu area. Is it better to stay at Hirayu or Takayama ? If i could not get accommodation at Hirayu, can I pay just to try out their onsen of the ryokan ? Is there a Japanese travel website that I might be able to accommodation on 5-6th Nov ?

3) If I spent one night at Takayama, what would you recommend to do ?

4) On My last day, I will be taking a train from Matsutomo to Nagoya, I will be staying one night at Nagoya. If you have only 1 day in Nagoya, what would you recommend things i should do in Nagoya ?
Thanks in advance .

1. μSky Limited Express (or any of Meitetsu’s express services really) to Nagoya, then JR Limited Express Hida to Takayama, then bus (direct or via Hirayu Onsen). The confusing part can be transfer at Nagoya station complex from Meitetsu’s station to JR station. Note that separate tickets need to be bought for Meitetsu’s and JR services.
2. For Kamikochi – Hirayu Onsen would be (much) preferred.
4. Depends on your interests: if you are into technology: SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, Science Museum and Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology may apply. If you are more into traditional sights: Osu Kannon, Atsuta-Jingu and Nagoya Castle or day trip to Inuyama. Shopping-wise: Sakae area or Endoji Shotengai.
1. I can only imagine two ways of reaching Kamikochi, via Takayama or Matsumoto. But you are right, would take meitetsu train first, then JR to Takayama. Actually you do not HAVE to stop by Nagoya station, you could stop at Shin-Unuma or Gifu station instead as both Meitetsu and the JR train to Takayama pass by these stations, might just want to Google Map at the specific time you are going. Then from Takayama, take the bus
2. I’ll not say what is better, but Takayama is a nice city, so it can be worth to stop there and they also have onsen in ryokan. If you stay in Hirayu but not a ryokan with onsen, yes, some ryokan might be open for day use from people who do not stay, but usually only for a couple of hours in the afternoon, so you cannot just go anytime you want. And out of curiosity, how did you searched for ryokan in Hirayu? I found that many ryokan are not present in international booking websites and you might have more luck visiting their individual webpage (Google Maps is good to find places).
3. Takayama, just walk around the old town, there is plenty of things to check. It should be easy enough to find websites that list things to do in Takayama.
4. I personally really enjoyed Nagoya castle. Yes, you will be able to visit an original castle keep in Matsumoto, but Nagoya have an extremely well reconstructed palace, using traditional technique.
