Spot Recommendations for One Piece Fan

Hi all, I’ll be heading to Japan with my boyfriend in December for a three week holiday. Since I’ve never been to Japan and he has many times, he has taken up the responsibility to do up our itinerary. He has loved One Piece since it was first released but never got to visit any noteworthy spots when we went to Japan because he always travelled with his family and they were not too interested.

His face glistens every time he talks about One Piece and I would like to surprise him a day to remember when we head to Japan. However, as someone who has never watched the anime and have no idea how to read the train maps, I am at a lost.

Can anyone help me by listing some places a One Piece fan would enjoy and what prefectures they are in? (Also not sure if this is relevant but his favourite character from One Piece is Shanks)

We’re confirmed for Osaka and Kyoto for now, but may head to the South or Fukouka.

I really appreciate all your help and thank you in advance! 🙂

  1. I don’t have any great tips but universal studios in Osaka had a cool Shonen jump store with a life size “sculpture” of the main characters (like the characters on a ship you could pose with).

That’s the most one piece I saw the last time I was there sorry!

  2. Next week, I’m doing a pilgrimate in Kumamoto (One Piece author’s hometown) by visiting all the Straw Hat bronze statues. You can do it in a day, just get ready for a lot of driving or public transporation.

To be honest, neither are limiting factors.

First of all, One Piece is set in a fictional world, so it’s not as if you could go to a location that is featured in the anime/manga.

Unfortunately, there is many things that closed or were limited time only, like One Piece Tower or the Thousand Sunny cruise, or there was a One Piece event at USJ this summer. One thing you can check is check a website like this to find events (like pop up cafe/shop, etc) [https://collabo-cafe.com/](https://collabo-cafe.com/) Right now I do not see anything special appart from stuff regarding the new movie. It seems they will also open a One Piece themed gym in Shibuya called ONE PIECE FITNESS BragMen in Jan. 2023.. while you might not want to go train, I am not sure how much it would possible to from the outside and if it would be worth the detour to pass by just to see it.

Anyway, there can be timed events, to that really depend on when you go.

Otherwise, there is not much permanent stuff, yes there is the newly installed One Piece statues in Kumamoto prefecture, bus as someone else said, they are spread around the prefecture and if you want to see them all, it would require quite a bit of planning and likely to rent a car.

As not knowing how to read the train map… just use Google Maps and it will tell you what train to use.
