Some problem in regard to jr Sanyo – San’in pass

So, if I buy the Sanyo – San’in pass and stay in Kyoto. Do I have to take the express from Kyoto to Shin Osaka than take Shinkansen to further west city like Kobe or Hiroshima?
Or can I just take Shinkansen from Kyoto to Kobe or Hiroshima?

Also, if I need to change the train in Shin Osaka, is it far from Shin Osaka express train station to Shin Osaka Shinkansen station?

By the way, this jr pass in valid in 7 days, but is it seven consecutive days or seven day but I can choose which day I will use the pass?

  1. Yes, you can get on and off Shinkansen at any station between Shin-Osaka and Hakata (including Kyoto, Shin-Kobe, Hiroshima etc).
Shinkansen and local train platforms are on the 4th and ground floor at Shin-Osaka station. Four or five minutes walk.
Valid for seven consecutive days from the first day of use.

  2. I haven’t used the JR passes in a while, so I might be mistaken, but from their website or looks like local trains in Kyoto are within the valid area, but travel on the Sanyo Shinkansen is only covered from Shin-Osaka station. That means you would either have to take the limited express or regular trains, or pay separately to use the Shinkansen.

All JR passes can only be used on consecutive days. It clearly states that on the official website, Japan Guide, and many other sites.

  3. A frequent Sanyo-Sanin Area Pass user here. You are allowed to use almost all local trains (including limited express) from Shin-Osaka to Kyoto except the Shinkansen since the trains from that segment of the line is operated by JR Central, a different company from JR West.

It’s also 7 consecutive days. Unless you’re traveling to the Sanin area. I suggest you purchase the cheaper JR Setouichi Area Pass which provides access to a similar area with added routes in Shikoku instead also for 7 consecutive days as well as unlimited seat reservations.
