Home Learn Japanese I am a little confused on そう (Seems Like) and がるLLearn JapaneseI am a little confused on そう (Seems Like) and がるOctober 10, 20222 comments To me it feels like they are almost the same. For example:「彼は嬉しそう。」 and 「彼は嬉しがる。」or 「あの子供は寂しそう。」and 「あの子供は寂しがる。」. Can someone please help me with separating these two pieces of grammar as different entities? Tags:Japanese LanguageLearn Japanese 2 commentsI’d say that がる is “shows signs of…” it’s more of a perception of how someone feels.彼女は寂しがっているでしょう。 She seems lonely, doesn’t she? (She shows signs of being lonely). It is emphasizing the fact she seems lonely.Here:https://wildnihongo.com/grammar/garu/そう seems more like it just describes “looks/seems..”今日も雨が降りそうです。 It looks like it’s going to rain today too. Also, がる doesn’t work on verbs just な and い adjectives.Here:https://japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/11420/difference-between-がる-and-~そうがる is you noticing that someone feels (or very likely feels) a certain way. Only used in third person.そう is you not being sure how someone feels. They look that way but you’re not sure.Leave a ReplyYou must be logged in to post a comment.
