Anyone had experience with LG TVs warranty in Japan?

I’m thinking about buying an LG OLED TV on Amazon, but it seems like those new OLED TVs get defective within 1-2 years, so it seems reasonable to buy the extended 5 years warranty, but I’m curious if anyone here has experience with LG Japan customer services.

  1. I bought an OLED tv from Amazon a couple of years ago w/o the warranty it still works fine, no dead pixels, etc. not sure if that will help you though. Lol

  2. I had a fun experience w one. I was at bic camera and spotted an ex display model 55inch Oled for 7万円 and thought it was too good to be true. I researched about the burn in issue that oleds have when displaying the same image for extended periods of time and found that while overseas they wont cover that under warranty, they do in Japan. At the register i confirmed w the sales guy about the warranty and burn in being covered and he was adamant its covered and was fine. I got an extended 5 year warranty. Anyway, tv gets delivered a few days later and i go ahead and wall mount it. That even i sit down to watch some tv and as im watching it i notice some weird lines/shadows and sure enough it ended up being the demo screen burnt in to the display. I call bic camera and they tell me to call samsung directly. Call samsung and they tell me it wouldnt be covered by warranty because the tv has 2000plus hours of use on it haha. I ask how much it would cost to fix and they tell me 15万円. Call bic camera again, they call samsung, finally a technician comes out and replaces the majoriy of the components along w the screen all for free. The technician said he does heaps of screen replacements for burn in. So anyways, in the end i got essentially a new oled w 5 year warranty for 70000yen . Highly recommended.

  3. Just to give you the opposite experience. Bought a beauty LG 4k smart TV and it lasted about 8 months before kaput. They replaced it under warranty BUT they didnt have anymore of the model I purchased, so they offered the next nearest model which was inferior. After about 4 months the TV would sometimes just turn off randomly. It would start up easily enough afterwards but it was (and still is annoying). We only had the manufacturers 1 year warranty and it had expired so were stuck with it. The sudden switch off doesnt happen often but it still happens-maybe 3-4 times a month? Also half the screen is somewhat faded. Doesnt affect watching programs much but it is a fault.

I would never buy an LG again, but if I did I would pay for the extra warranty. To be sure, maybe I am just unlucky as others in the thread have had no issues.

  4. Got my oled b9 almost 2 years ago. Not a trace of burn in. In the recent one it’s a non-issue. Check the reviews of those who use them daily as computer monitors, it’s the best benchmark
