  1. Anyone else in the Tokyo/Kanto region experience a dew point around 15:30 yesterday? I noticed my mirror starting to fog then suddenly everything was slightly wet. The floor, furniture, etc. No AC and all the windows open. Very weird.

Luckily it dried up fairly quickly except for the first floor which I had to run a fan for a while.

  2. If one doesn’t pay residential taxes and runs back home is there a slightest chance that he/she will be prosecuted if he/she comes back to Japan as a tourist in the future? Residential tax is too much.

    Asking for a friend.

  3. As of this month, due to an amendment in the law, and because I am employed by a university in a school, my insurance provider is changing from Kyokai Kenpo to “Japan Mutual Aid Association of Public School Teachers.”

Previously, because I’m a part-time contract worker who is technically unemployed during winter, spring and summer breaks (and re-hired via new contract after each), I had to switch from shakai hoken back to national health insurance at the start of each break, then back onto shakai hoken at the start of the next contract period. Irritating, but I got used to it. Mostly.

Now I’m curious if I’ll have to keep changing from the national health insurance to this new “Mutual Aid Association” insurance scheme, then back again. The office staff at my school have no information and I can’t find anything online.

Is anyone here in the same boat, but has found out that answer? I’m assuming I have to keep doing the changes (which now involves even more paperwork), because my experience in Japan has led me to always assume the more frustrating thing is correct. Worth checking, though.

  4. It cooled down quite a bit this weekend, highs of 12-14. Finally time to bust out the sweater collection and think about using the stove a little. The trees haven’t really caught up quite yet though, probably need another week or so until we get nice fall foliage.

  5. Got back from Europe on Sunday. Entry into Japan was so much easier than before. Showed them my blue screen on the SOS app and that was it. Masks in Greece and France are almost non-existent. During the flight, they announced, “due to a strike action, we will not be able to serve coffee or tea.” ??? AirFrance of course. That’s a new one for me.
