I’m currently planning a trip for June 2023. I have been into classical music for most of my life and would love to see Japan’s Philharmonics. I’m wondering about their dress code and etiquette.
1. Is the dress code very strict? My local philharmonic is more laid back than most and I’ve seen some people in pajamas while attending.
2. Is a negative covid test required for entry?
3. How loud are the audiences? Do you have to refrain from clapping between movements or is there any practices that differ from most places

1. Japan is usually smart-causual type of country. Here, poeple dress nicely in everyday situations, so I think you should wear a shirt and trousers. Pajamas would be inapropriate. even though maybe nobody will tell you.
2. Never has been required for anything taking place in Japan.
3. Even at the cinema, nobody makes any noise, so I think they will be silent. But, go with the flow and do like everybody else does.
