Anyone watched the Lucky Star anime in japanese?

I’ve recently started to rewatching the Lucky Star anime. I’ve already watched it a few years ago, when my Nihongo was not jouzu enough to understand anything useful.

Just to clarify my current level of Japanese: I can understand TV dramas and anime (e.g. the Monogatari Series, which I consider one of the harder ones to understand due to a lot of wordplays and long dialogs) without problem.

Back to topic. While watching the Lucky Star anime I noticed that I had a hard time catching some of things said (mostly jokes, slang words). I also watch a lot of Japanese YouTubers and Streamers, a lot of whom also talk in a casual, sometimes “Otaku-like” way like the main character of the show, so I thought it’d be able to watch the show without problems.

So now with my confidence in my Japanese skills shattered . I tried to find a reason for my lack of understanding. Because it could “obviously” not be my still not near perferct understanding of the Japanese language, nor the fact that I somewhat neglected studying in the past few weeks, right. Right? So, the only excuse I can come up with is, that in the past 20 years since the show was released, the style of speaking (especially in the online community) has changed a lot, and the show of which I previously just thought of as an Slice-of-life anime might rather be a comedy show that relies heavily on jokes that use weird words.

If anyone has seen this show and disagrees with my train of thought. Feel free to correct me and help me figure out on what I have to work on to improve and enjoy this show in its entirety.
