Handling taxes with two jobs: one is 正社員, the other is 業務委託.

I have a 正社員 (permanent employment) job and have been working there for 3+ years.

Starting next month, I’ll be doing some extra freelance contractual work (業務委託) on the side.

My main job has no rules against pursuing outside employment opportunities (副業), but I’d still rather them not know about it to avoid any headaches such as office politics.

Can I just file all of the taxes together on my own instead of having my main job handle the taxes for that source of income?

What would be the best way to go about this? Never had two separate sources of income before now.

  1. yes. your employer won’t do your taxes for you lol… you need to do your kakutei shinkoku. Good luck.

  2. You do a kakutei shinkoku in addition to the amount your company withheld from you. The company won’t know about the second source of income.
