Hey guys, I’ve been here for 7 years, and have my first trip back home in 6 years to Australia. My dad’s been going through a lot of health issues, so I can’t wait to get back but also don’t want to risk messing up any entry/exit requirements.
I’ve done a fair amount of research, am aware that Australia no longer needs Covid vaccination proof or even a negative Covid test. Japan aparently still requires proof of vaccination and or a negative Covid test within 72 hours of travelling back here.
I’ve been vaccinated 3 times, have waited 3 months for a vaccination certificate that I can finally pick up this Saturday.
I’m also an AU phone customer, and looking at doing their ¥490 per day international roaming plan. If anyone has any experience, or other tips other than this?
I’m leaving in a couple weeks time, and just wanted to pick your brains on any advice in advance. Please and thank you in advance, and sorry if this is bothersome! Just really don’t want to mess something up and not be able to get back and see my dad.

The MySOS app is super simple to use, so you’ll be able to come back easily after you’ve uploaded your documents.
As for phone, when I visit I usually pick up a cheap sim card at the airport – usually it’s $15-20 for 30GB which may be enough depending on how long you’ll be there. Last time I used Optus since they had store right near the arrivals area, but you may feel wary of them given the massive data leak.
Entering Australia is the same as pre-Covid. No additional documents or paperwork. You’ve also got the right info about returning to Japan.
As for phones, itll be easier and cheaper just to grab a prepaid sim from Telstra or Optus. $30 for unlimited data, calls and text.
490 per day is pretty expensive dude. Just use free wifi, and set up one of those voip for a couple of bucks. I think Wifi has come a long way since we been locked up, even technologically impaired backwater countries like Ozzy have probably made progress. You should be fine!
Get the 新型コロナワクチンアプリ if you have a plastic My Number card. It displays your vaccine certs and generates an image you can load into the MySOS app.
Get and fill in the MySOS app and if all goes well you basically stroll through the airport.
