Spouse VISA to PR question

If anybody has personal experience with this or just knows – for example, I have found online on the immigration bureaus website that after 3 years of marriage you are eligible to apply for it.

I have also seen cases on here people with a HsP visa have some kind of point system that needs to be fulfilled for getting approved.

My main question is, if we got married 2019 Oct 24, am I eligible to apply for PR 2022 Jan 1 or do I need to wait until 2022 Oct 24 before applying?

  1. Is Jan 1, 2022 3 years? Or is Jan 1, 2022 26 months? I’ll give you a hint, it’s not 3 years.

And do you meet the residence requirement and not on a 1 year visa? Because you need to have been a resident for a full year AND not be on a 1 year visa.

  2. am in your same shoes actually and i think pr isnt worth the trouble. dont want to have to report my whereabouts and my employer changes every time. id rather keep a spouse visa, less trouble.
aside from the renewal period being longer i see no benefits. could be wrong idk, thats my 2 cent

  3. They count from your time of marriage, not the calendar year, so you nerd to have been married for 3 years, have a visa that is longer than a 1 year, and you have to have been a resident in Japan for at least one year and be up to date with health insurance, taxes, and pension payments.

I’m not sure what the HSP has to do with this unless you’re trying to let us know that’s what you’re currently here on and trying to get PR on the basis of marriage.

Either way, getting it on the basis of marriage isn’t done by a point system. It’s by fulfilling the requirements mentioned above.
