Visa extension is a pretty common topic here so apologies if this has been asked before.
I’m currently working part-time and have another part-time job, but my average monthly income is still basically just at 200,000 yen (given that it’s a month of 5 full weekends, as my eikaiwa shifts are on those days). I’ve heard that the amount of income they the MoJ hopes for is variable depending on location, but I live in Higashiosaka. Not sure if it will make much of a difference.
My contract for my main work ends on March 31st, but my visa expires on March 6th. Will this help my visa get extended, even if my income isn’t as high as it could be?
On another note, worst case scenario, would returning to full-time employment for the next contract essentially guarantee a visa extension if the MoJ doesn’t think my income is good enough? Would the gap between visa expiration and that next contract matter?
Honestly I hate visa laws, they make everything so stressful and in reality imo if people just want to live and work somewhere, they should be free to. Anyway, this is the stuff we gotta deal with, I guess.

Heard spousal PR is the best way to live visa free in japan.
Proceed with your own risk though.
Getting visa rejected is hard if you are making money and paying all your taxes.
The worst that can happen is they give you a shorter period.
Let’s say you’re on 5-year visa, they might give you 3 years this time.
If you’re on 3 years, they might give you 1 year.
If you’re over the 180,000 yennies threshold, you can reapply with the self-sponsored visa. I hear you. You should be able to get PR after 5 years of crime-free living in Japan, and then citizenship at 7, Japan makes laws for the sake of showing they have laws. lol

Does your current visa expire on March 6th? Or April 6th?
If it’s March 6th, your main work company will need to get your visa extended before it expires. You can submit the paperwork up to 3 months prior to expiry (6th Dec). Following that, within 14 days of leaving your company, you need to inform immigration about it.
If your visa expires on April 6th, that might be a little bit more tricky. Your company will not need to/be able to provide you with the documentation to renew your visa, and you might be pretty much on your own. I would advise you to consult with an immigration “lawyer” on how to best proceed. You should put in your extension request 3 months before your visa expires (Jan 6th), so perhaps speak with one way before that date, and plan accordingly from there.
