Amazon scam: cheap products with very high delivery costs

Just a heads up of something I’m seeing a lot on Amazon recently: products offered much cheaper than usual by a third party seller but with high delivery costs.

For example, a 3,000 yen Bluetooth shown with an actual 50% discount, but the delivery fee is 9,000 yen.

The reviews of these sellers show many people complaining they didn’t notice the delivery fee until clicking “buy” and that Amazon refuses to do anything about it since the product is actually shipped and working.

Be careful not to fall for these and I hope Amazon does something about these shipping costs scams soon.

  1. So you’re telling me the shipping doesn’t show up upon checkout, but you notice it during your credit card statements? Because personally, even if I’m blackout drunk, I always manage to check the shipping on the sidebar. If the shipping is too high, I will say to myself ”shipping kills the deal”, and I nope the hell on out of there.

I’m still angry at amazon because chinese knockoff sellers are trying to sell me cases for an iphone when I’m actually searching for Playstation 4 games. This has been an ongoing problem since 2010. Sellers use the keywords for something completely unrelated to their product, and use precious screen space to display their garbage items instead of what I really want. This is the real ‘scam’, it wastes my precious time!!

  2. I have noticed a similar practice very recently on NVMe drives. 11,000 yen price, but 50,000 yen delivery ….

  3. This is not new. Such practices have existed since before Amazon existed. Hell, such practices pre-date the internet.

  4. I hadn’t seen one for a while. Looking for a mattress protector and check this out: ¥2,145. And underneath that?:
    **¥19999 delivery October 21 – 26.**

    Yeeeeeehaaaaw!!

  5. I don’t think this is a new problem – pretty common with Yahoo Auction also.

This is why I don’t buy products which clearly from China in Amazon. Need something you can only buy from China? Just use Aliexpress and you have a lot more choices while fully aware of the shipping fee from China.

Avoid products with too long shipping time in general – since if it’s from Japan usually it won’t take more than a week.
