Hello! I am planning my trip to Japan and was wondering if it would be possible to book directly with hotels, ryokans, attraction tickets (Disney sea, teamlab, universal studio), and JR passes, directly through their official Japanese website? Or would it be better to go through booking agencies for the hotels and klook for the tickets?
I find that through the website you can find better deals and promotions. However I’m not sure that if the Japanese websites did require a phone number would an oversea number be okay? And will they accept an international card, or would I need to use my wise multi currency card?
Thank you so much!

Usually book ryokan direct, if they ask phone number I put my foreign number. Some service might require a Japanese number. One problem is that in some places, foreign credit cards do not work because of some security features, so that could be a problem.
So the best answer is unfortunately…. Try.
As much as I want to support the business directly, I find it rather hard to book directly in Japan. Infrastructure (payment system etc) and language barrier makes it risky.
It’s usually case-by-case. Some websites require Japan phone number for SMS verification, it is impossible for foreigners. Some others (Jalan, rakuten travel, Toyota car rent) are fine if you can **read the context carefully**.
