Medicine from Japan using foreign prescription? (Urgent)

Hello,

I need urgent help on this
I need the medicine – Edaravone 1.5 mg for my mom. She’s not in Japan, but I was told I might get it here. My mom’s been diagnosed with progressive muscle atrophy (basically a form of ALS of what Stephen hawking had)

Is it possible to get the medicine via a printed out prescription from a different country (in English) here from Japan? If so, where?

Thanks.

  1. Nope.

If you move here and have prescriptions that you were using overseas, you can bring those to a local doctor and ask him to start prescribing them, but of course that’s up to them – and you certainly can’t do that for a third party.

No. Primarily because the person who wrote the prescription isn’t licensed in Japan. But a slew of other reasons as well.

  3. That’s impossible in Japan. Your mother herself would have to visit a doctor in Japan, and then get the prescription if the doctor decided it was necessary.

  4. As per experience, foreign prescription allows you to pass through customs.

    – max 3 months as you MUST see a Japanese doctor after.
    – meds have to be written under their international name.
    – no opioids

I used a carrying cooler to kept them cold during flight.
A doctor letter to avoid troubles when boarding the plane (liquids) from home.

Do no try importing them, it’s possible but expect lot of work.

  5. If you live in Kanagawa, befriend a US Navy sailor and have them get the stuff. Chances are they have it on base, or can get it mailed to the base.
