  1. I think we are in an unusual situation to make any kind of call on the long term situation. They mention that consumption is down 99% over the course of 60 years however I am more curious about the rate since 2010 when the matter became very controversial. Did relevant dips only occur from recent years (COVID)?

  2. I didnt know it used to be a staple food because its super fatty like eating a lamp of lard or something. if I have nothing to eat Ill try but now now no thank you with 熨斗.

I doubt theres the demand in the first place maybe some 判官贔屓 guys have made it.

like the past 鯨油 is better more practical way to consume if we have to continue to slaughter them.

  3. Isn’t the #1 buyer of whale meat the government and they literally have so much they just kinda freeze it?

There isnt any real demand for it. It’s done out of tradition and the 5 people in this country that legitimately enjoys whale

  4. Someone ordered whale when we were at an izakaya once. It was basically inedible and by far the worse thing I’ve ever tried to eat in Japan.

  5. I saw some whale meat for sale in a local supermarket recently. I’ve never noticed it because I don’t usually buy fish. I don’t have enough confidence to make it myself so I prefer to eat fish at restaurants. I am interested in trying the whale but for the same reasoning I would rather eat it at a restaurant. I wonder how it tastes.

I would also like to try horse.

  6. Probably for the better.

all the pcbs and heavy metals that are in whale meat probably shouldn’t be consumed.
