Camping at the Lakes Around Mt. Fuji

I was planning to camp with a friend around the lakes in Mt. Fuji. The goal was Tanukiko, but they filled up right on the day we were planning to go (happened to be Culture Day). We do plan to rent a car, ~~and their parking seems to be free, so we were wondering if we could just sleep in the car in the parking lot and couldn’t tell if that was allowed~~. Alternatively, we have a spot at **Saiko Jiyuu reserved** for a fallback, but it’s not quite as good a view and it is quiet. And were thinking of **Kouan** at Motosuko as a yolo attempt since it’s first come first served, to pitch a tent a day ahead while we’re in Kawaguchiko. What would be the most viable of these options?

On another note, we would like to rent camping gear, preferably out of Kawaguchiko but so far have not found any places that offer tent/sleeping bag rentals. I’ve found [https://www.yamarent.com/en/shopinfo.html?language=en](https://www.yamarent.com/en/shopinfo.html?language=en) and [https://www.soranoshita.net/](https://www.soranoshita.net/) but with Google Translate, both of them seem to be closed in November. Would appreciate any help/insight.

  1. Wild camping is kind of forbidden in japan. The places you can camp outside require you to register as well.

  2. **Please check our front page for the stickied** [**Tourism Information Megathread**](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanTravel/) **for current information on re-opening.**

    Thank you!
