I arrived in Japan as a dependent and currently do not have permission to work 28hrs per week. However, I now have a prospect employer in Japan who is willing to hire me full time as a consultant/contractor. They are willing to help prepare documents so I could change my status of residence.
However, both me and the prospect employer do not have any experience regarding sponsoring a visa.

Anyone who has success changing their status of residence? How long did it take?
If lawyers were involved, any recommended english-speaking lawyers which may be able to help with such?
Do I need to setup a sole proprietor for this?
