I recently moved to Japan and I friend recommended Mineo for cheap plans. Have any of you used? Is there any support in English at their stores in Tokyo?
I tried to use them when they first came out and stupidly got their au-line card. It didn’t work in any phone I had, but that was > 5 years ago.
These days pretty much every MVNO is similar pricing, there’s probably nothing wrong with mineo.
Do NOT expect English support from any of them tho. If you absolutely require that, DoCoMo/NTT has English number that will connect you through to an operator and get stuff done.
But really, most of the setup is just entering your name/stuff into a web form and taking pics/scanning your IDs. How much english do you need for this?
If you want to spend a bit more but still less than a full-fat carrier, ahamo/au povo/forgot who the 3rd one is from softbank/uq will deliver slightly more data for around 2000-3000 a month.
I have been with Mineo for several years now and never had an issue. Piggybacking on Docomo. But I am not in Tokyo, so I don’t know, how crowded their network space is over there.
Support by phone was quick and easy, but I never tried English. I don’t know whether they offer that. Most things can be done online anyway, and if your browser can translate, then that should be doable.
