Spouse Visa Renewal concerns

Hi guys,

My one year spouse visa is about to expire soon and I’m about to go for a renewal. This is my my first time renewing my visa.

My concern is that I work remote and get paid in a foreign bank account. I make enough (6.5 million-ish when converted to yen) and can show bank statements. Wife has also had a full time job at a local company this whole time and makes about 3 million yen.

Is this cause for concern for a spouse visa renewal?

Also, how can I increase my chances of getting a 3-5 year visa instead of 1 year.

Any renewal tips are welcome.

Thank you!

  1. Guess the question is, are you correctly declaring your taxes for this remote work income?

If so then you have nothing to worry about because remote work is fine on a spouse visa. Tax fraud on the other hand is not acceptable on a spouse visa (or any visa for that matter)

As for getting 3-5 year it’s difficult to say. The system is quite arbitrary, but then certain variables *can* help.

  2. Just show then your tax return? Or Kakutei shinkoku as they say.

That’s the only valid proof you can show.

Btw, you need to be paying Japanese tax on taht 6.5M salary. I would say about 1.5 ~ 1.8M of that would go to tax.
