  1. Inexcusable. Japan’s legal/detention system is in bitter need of reform. After the passing of the Sri Lankan woman in custody last year, it’s shocking that they’d let this happen too a foreign national again. Clearly these are international human rights violations, regardless of whether these people are guilty of breaking the law. The State is responsible for their well-being while in custody awaiting processing.

  2. > But the Yokohama detention center said the same day that Tenenboim had been found lying on a bed in a solitary cell with an elastic hair band stretched from under his chin to the top of his head, suggesting that he may have committed suicide.

    That sounds a little off.

I’m also not seeing any mention of whether or not the police arrested and imprisoned the violent Yakuza gangsters that were going to be receiving the stimulant drugs. The old man who smuggled the drugs was obviously just a hapless mule.

  3. Japanese immigration is a disgrace. Never be friendly to them, they are not our friend but our enemies.

  4. A huge surprise. Another foreign detainee treated less than an animal. Here is something Japanese to wrap around it’s thick head, just because someone commits a crime doesn’t make them less human.

  5. The dude had heart surgery before coming to Japan and they denied him medical treatment for his heart?

That is so off the charts wrong, I think murder charges are appropriate for every individual involved in the decision to keep denying him. And yeah, the death penalty can stay right on the table.

  6. I’m confused, what drugs was he trying to bring in cause it says stimulants but it says he has a heart condition
