3 Weeks group traveling November/December itinerary check, any input appreciated : )

Fukuoka/Hiroshima/Osaka/Kyoto/Nagano/Tokyo

Hi Everyone. A group of us are planning on adding roughly 3 weeks for a first trip to japan to the end of our south Korea trip in November. We’ve decided on Busan -> Fukuoka as our starting location, with a focus on locations that interest us on our way to Tokyo with the 14 day rail pass.

If there are too many stops/too ambitious in some areas, feel free to critique as any advice/perspective is appreciated : )

11/28: Busan -> Fukuoka

Considering Kumamoto day trip for one piece statues if time permits

Night in Fukuoka

Activate 14day JRailpass this day if required

11/29: Fukuoka -> Yufuin/Kurokawa

Night in Yufuin/Kurokawa (undecided)

11/30: Yufuin -> Hiroshima

If time permits, go to Miyajima & back spending night in Hiroshima

12/1: Hiroshima -> Osaka

While still in Hiroshima, Atomic bomb dome & Peace memorial

Leave for Himeji & visit Himeji castle

Leave and spend night in Osaka

12/2nd-7th: Osaka, Kyoto, Nara

7 Nights spread across Osaka, Kyoto & Nara

12/8: Kyoto -> Nagoya

Night in Nagoya (might replace this day with something else)

12/9: Nagoya -> Nagano City

Takayama day trip on way to Nagano

Night in Nagano

12/10: Nagano City -> Snow Monkey Park

Check Snow Monkey Park live stream to see if its viable, backup is skiing in **Hakuba** (had wrong ski resort previously) for day

Return to Nagano city for Night

12/11: Nagano City -> Kusatsu

Night in Kusatsu

12/12: Kusatsu -> Tokyo

Tokyo for Night

12/13th-21st: Rest in Tokyo

Leave on 21st

  1. I’d say skip Nagoya and go straight to Nagano.

    Takayama/Shirakawa-Go/Hida is great but as an in-between stop Nagoya-Nagano rather tricky. You’ll be on the train for most of the day + there are not too many trains.

    Shigakogen, Hakuba, Myoko, etc., are easily reached from Nagano. There are *many* ski resorts nearby, but Niseko is not one of them.
