Working remotely for int’l company

For the past two years I’ve been doing online gigs and odd jobs for US based companies, but nothing steady or full time. I’ve been to so many different job hunting websites, and just can’t get anything. My qualifications and resume are good, but nothing anyone would flip over.

Has anyone had any luck in working full time remotely for their home country?

  1. I’m in the management team at a UK tech startup and live here in Tokyo. Thing to be aware of is that any company abroad needs to go through an EOR provider (unless they have a legal entity here in which you’d just be a Japan based employee) and this adds $500 per month to payroll costs. It’s also a fair bit of hassle to set up so you would need to have a good skillset / experience for this to be a possibility – if you don’t bring more to the table than a domestic employee it won’t happen.

  2. Create an LLC in home country, then register as a freelancer in Japan and hire yourself. Have the employer pay your LLC, then give yourself the contractor salary. Research pension and insurance policies too, you may want to consider having your LLC pay benefits.
