Crazy letter asking for information about what country I am claiming the tax exemption, the tax exemption treaty number and the tax exemption amount. All of this was included in my form 2555 so how could they not have it? Anyone else have a similar experience of them requesting basic information like this?

I’ve never had that problem but I always us an online tax preparation service that will do tax returns for Americans living abroad and file them electronically.
It’s difficult to say without more information, but there should be a box in the corner with information. At the top it should say Notice and a code. Knowing the code is very helpful for knowing what kind of letter it is and why it was issued.
