Might be a stupid question but I can’t seem to figure this out. If the word is said by itself which do I use?
how can とめて be used by itself when its transitive. I see this being used but it confuses me.
Wouldn’t you use とまって because it’s intransitive.

What are you asking the person to do?
Stop a car? とめて.
Stop walking? とまって.
