What is 後者 and 前者 referring to in this text, and how can it be used to correctly answer the reading question?

In the last few lines, there seems to be a contrast of former/latter in もし後者に係る/もし前者に係る, which is required to answer the question.

However, even after reading the explanation and text many times, I do not get what is being referred to by 後者 and 前者. Initially, I thought it was the contrast of だまされたくて and だまされたくない in the end of the first paragraph, but this did not really make sense.

The explanation says that 「もし後者に係るとすれば」is equal to 「ドキュメンタリーの本質が「番組全体の主張では嘘をつかない」であるなら」.

If so then what does 「もし前者に係るとすれば」refer to?

Also, in the second paragraph, does the text’s repeated use of 個別的な事実 (a particular truth) have anything to do with the terms 主張では嘘をつかない and 主張そのものはほぼ真実 in answer/explanation and that is how to get the correct answer?
