Hi, everyone. I recently joined Tsukuba University as a student. I have to open a bank account to receive my stipend and the deadline is 17th October. I arrived here on 11th October so everything has been hectic. I only have my resident card, student ID, enrolment certificate and a GTN mobile phone number.
Is there any bank account that will accept these documents? I tried Sony Bank and they need health insurance card or 12 digits “my number”. I applied for them but they haven’t arrived yet.
Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thank you. 🥹

You most likely have a MyNumber, but just not the card.
You can get it printed on your Juuminhyo (residence certificate) that you get from your city/ward office.
Yucho bank (a.k.a. JP Bank) will accept these documents for a general account. The drawback is that you must book an appointment on their website, before you go. It seems like Sony Bank requires you to have lived in Japan for, at least, six months.
You can get a JP Post bank, fill out their application online, print it and bring it to the nearest JP Post bank branch near you.

Yucho is probably the easiest (albeit crappiest) bank available to anyone.
