One will automatically lose their Japanese citizenship if they choose to naturalize and obtain another citizenship – How true is this from your experience? Is it very enforced unlike the gray zone for duals by birth?

Will the Japanese ministry of immigration know right away once you apply for citizenship elsewhere and revoke your citizenship?
I still pay for healthcare and want my children to have the JP citizenship so I’m wondering if it’s worth getting my Canadian citizenship.

  1. There is no grey zone for duals at birth. No dual at birth has involuntarily lost japanese nationality. Ever.

  2. My kids have dual nat, I think as japan progresses it won’t be an issue, cant see the Japanese running around checking tbh and as my kids have been on the system in the uk that history is there, read its a bit of, well if we dont know its not a problem type aptitude, My kids have yet to reach the age of where they have to choose and I think they will go with jp, I do wonder how the jp will approach the matter if at all, I think its mentioned in paperwork somewhere that u could probably just forget to tick?
